A major pharmaceutical company’s drug discovery process requires thousands of chemical and biological assays each year. The more assays that can be performed, the quicker results can be obtained and the sooner the drug goes to market. To increase its basic research throughput, the company partners with Contract Research Organizations (CROs) all over the world to outsource much of this work.
The CRO researchers email results in spreadsheets (in a variety of formats) to the pharmaceutical company. In order to move the data into a consolidated research database, scientists at the company must manually copy, paste and/or re-key it into other rigid spreadsheet templates. The process is time-consuming and error-prone and delays availability of data to scientists who would benefit from it, adding significant time to the research and approval process.
Cambridge Semantics’ Solution
Using Cambridge Semantics’ Anzo for Excel plug-in, scientists can directly load their assay results into the basic research database with just a few mouse clicks. Each scientist can continue to use their own familiar spreadsheet layouts and the data is now uploaded to the corporate database without human intervention. The result is enormous time savings and significantly increased accuracy.
